In 2023, we set out to spare 6.7 million hens from life in a cage. We spared over 7.5 million.
Here’s the plan. Thanks to campaigns backed by compassionate people like you, hundreds of the world's most powerful companies have already promised to eliminate battery cages from their supply chains. And their self-imposed deadlines (2024, 2025, 2026) are coming up fast. This year could be a tipping point—and it’s up to us to hold these corporate giants to their word. In 2023, we set out to spare approximately 6,700,000 hens from extreme confinement—and we ultimately impacted over 7,500,000, protecting them from horrific treatment. If we succeed, millions more hens could ultimately be spared from life in a cruel battery cage.
Battery cages should never have existed in the first place. And we can’t go back in time, but we can do the next best thing: Change the future. If we hold these companies accountable for their commitments, we’ll prove it’s possible to make sweeping changes across our food system. In other words, this isn’t just the end of cages—it’s the beginning of a better world for all animals.
As of December 2023, an estimated 7,500,000 hens could one day be spared from battery cages at companies we influenced in 2023. It's critical we keep this pressure up in 2024—for the animals.

To note, we are aware of the limitations of this calculation and it is our best estimate under current circumstances. We welcome advice on how to improve this estimate.
By pressuring companies to end the worst forms of confinement, we’ve already made a difference for millions of hens. Campaigners and activists across the country are poised and ready to demand progress from leading corporate giants. But at the end of the day, we aren’t the ones who convince these companies to stick to their commitments. You are. This doesn’t happen without you. Are you with us?
It’s hard to watch even 60 seconds of “life” in a cage. The desperation. The fear. The constant pain and discomfort. And yet, a single hen will endure 10,000 hours in a battery cage before she is considered “spent” and trucked to slaughter.
She’s curious, intelligent, and inquisitive. But all she’s ever known is the inside of a cage. Saving a single hen from this suffering is a goal worth fighting for—and together, we can spare millions like her from this cruelty. Every donor who supports this campaign will spare thousands of hens from the worst abuses, in a historic blow to the cruel cage egg industry.
This work is ambitious. But it’s also possible. Every campaign victory has the potential to change the lives of millions of animals. Together, we can fight factory farming and end one of the cruelest practices ever inflicted on animals.
Send a message right now to that are profiting from cruelty. Then, choose your level of commitment to take this fight to the next level. This year, let’s save over 7 million hens from cages.
