PROTECT CRUSTACEANS FROM BEING BOILED ALIVE

Conscious. Terrified. Struggling to escape. A lobster’s final moments are pure agony.

Imagine being plunged into boiling water—your sensitive body registering every excruciating degree of heat, your limbs thrashing in desperate attempts to escape. This is the horrifying reality for countless lobsters and crabs who are boiled alive, every single day.

The scientific evidence is clear: crustaceans feel pain intensely. When submerged in scalding water, lobsters display frantic neural activity for up to 150 seconds—that’s nearly three minutes of conscious, unimaginablesuffering. They "struggle violently," often resorting to tearing off their own limbs in response to the extreme pain and stress.

In the wild, lobsters can live for over a century. They’re deeply social animals who communicate with others, remembering individual lobsters they’ve met and maintaining relationships. They can even be right- or left-handed—or ambidextrous!

Their bodies are marvels of sensitivity, covered in hundreds of thousands of tiny hairs that can detect a single degree change in temperature. They use this incredible awareness to navigate vast distances—migrating up to 99 miles to find the perfect breeding grounds for their babies. Imagine the agony these sensitive beings endure when thrown into boiling water.

As David Foster Wallace noted in his sobering essay “Consider the Lobster” (2004), lobsters “behave very much as you or I would behave if we were plunged into boiling water (with the obvious exception of screaming).”

The good news is that more countries are taking action to ban this horrific practice. Thanks to compassionate advocates like you, legislation now protects crustaceans from live-boiling in Australia, Austria, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, and parts of Italy. The United Kingdom is considering similar protections.

Let’s call live-boiling what it is—torture. These intelligent, feeling beings deserve to be spared from such extreme cruelty in their final moments. If you agree that no animal should endure this fate, join us in taking action to protect crustaceans from this unnecessary suffering.

No animal deserves to be boiled alive. And it’s not just lobsters who face this excruciating death. Chickens raised for food are also at risk of this fate, with thousands boiled alive every week. 💔
